From the beginning
The building at 204 S. Main Street, Wauconda, Illinois, was constructed in 1889 as A.G. Potter Shoe Repair.
The building was later used as an ice cream parlor, as a pool hall,
and in the 1920's as a waiting room for the Willow-Bend Bus Line.
It was subsequently used as a restaurant and tavern, with such names
as the Parrot Inn, Clem's Tavern, Dizzy and Daffy's,
Ginny's Tap, and Tom's Tap-a-Barrel.
The building was purchased by the present owners, Karen and Tom Malik, in 2010, and renovated to a high-end martini bar known as the Strawberry Moon, which began operations in November, 2011.
"Strawberry Moon" is the name that Native Americans gave to the first full moon in June, when they began their strawberry harvest.
June is the beginning of summer, and a time for romance and celebration.
During renovation a number of interesting artifacts were recovered, including two horseshoes; a heavy-gauge metal sign from the Father Time Whiskey Distillery in Elgin; a milk bottle from the Rouse Brothers Dairy in Mundelein (circa 1931); a soda pop bottle from the F. W. Muller Carbonated Beverages Factory in Arlington Heights (circa 1889), now the Arlington Heights Historical Museum; a beer bottle from the Shoenhofen Brewery in Pilsen (circa 1918), now a City of Chicago landmark; a beer bottle from the Jung Brewery in Milwaukee (circa 1918); a bottle of face cream from the J.R. Watkins Medical Company of Plainview, and later Winona, Minnesota
(circa 1889); a water bottle from the Minerva Water Company in Cary; and miscellaneous embossed whiskey bottles.
The bottles are on display behind the first floor bar.
